Metal sanding

Metal sanding steel preparation

The metal sanding phase belongs with the raw materials finishing process. It is a very important moment in the cycle, in which the operator must be accurate to get a uniform surface from the pieces of steel or any other metal in order to be available for the subsequent planned processing.

Metal sanding or reeling is a metals finish done manually or through the appropriate machinery, which means passages on abrasive belts, coarse and then gradually finer grains, until the desired level of smoothness is achieved. Once these porosities and irregularities have been wiped out from the outward layer, the materials are ready for later preparation phases.

It is also possible to do either dry metal sanding, in case it is needed to further protect the item with transparent varnish, or wet grinding with emulsifying water. After this operation, metal can be subjected to brushing, a kind of aesthetic manipulation aimed to  highlight the quality of the product.
